For You
My hands are shaking with irreparable horror. I stare solemnly at the ground, knowing there is nowhere else worth looking. Can't look forward; my life ends here. Can't look up; there's no hope. Not to the right or the left; there is only condemnation there.
But I glance one final glance into innocent sunshine eyes and whisper softly, "For you, my love. For you."
These confessions escape my lips just as the shots ring out.
She may never know the sacrifice I seal my fate with.
