A Dream Forgotten
Purple Mountains for those afar
who in their distance see.
The vast expanse, wide and far
from sea to shining sea.
But to those mountains, I have trekked
and there I have found,
no vivid light nor color flecked.
Only dirt upon the ground.
So there I stand on mountain high
and trace once fruited land.
Hemmed so neat my spacious sky,
stitched with weary hand.
But a dream forgotten, I suppose,
is that land of the free.
And of its memory we dispose
when hatred bends our knee
A blank-faced nation, if we could
find the pride to be,
would be crowned with brotherhood
from sea to shining sea.
Yes, we are a blank-faced nation.
No coloring nor hues
could force us into subjugation
unless of course, we choose.
So while we stand divided,
One nation under God,
our future is decided
and our legacy downtrod.
For we have yet to see!
if a nation brought hence,
conceived in liberty pure,
can sustain her defense.
And thus, long endure.
A house divided is our nation.
I fear no longer can she stand
under the oppressive breath of discrimination
that clouds our sacred land.
But through more than race,
we divide, weaken, mar.
and the brilliance of Liberty's face
grows every anguished and scarred.
So let not your political lines divide,
nor your religious diversity sway.
We must end the war between our sides
and unite the U.S. of A.
For we are one body, a nation thus bound
to the insurance of our longevity
and the freedoms which found
America, in its entirety.
America, America, crippled have you been
by the self inflicted chains of separation
that have risen up again,
to corrupt a united persuasion.
Yes, a dream forgotten, I suppose
is that land of the free.
And of its memory we dispose
when hatred bends our knee.
A blank-faced nation if we could,
find the pride to be.
Would be crowned with brotherhood
from sea to shining sea.
