The End of the World...Day One

Do you ever feel as though the whole world is keeping a secret? A secret that everyone knows but no one wants to believe? They think that no one should utter or even think of the secret. It's not like the world would end...would it?

Last night I overheard my father talking to some government official...

"It's all over George. Every last one of them are in..."

"That is enough. I have a family to take care of, I can not just drop everything and join your little escape crew. Give me some time to get my family together then maybe we can work something out."

"But you are vital to this mission. If you die so does the countless hours of research you have pored into this organization."

"Shh...I think I heard something."

I silently said a plea in my head. Not paying attention, my arm had knocked over a candle that was placed on the table next to where I was secretly ease dropping on my fathers conversation. I could not see what he was doing, but I knew he could easily find me. I dreaded that most of all. My parents told me how vitally important it was that I stay in the house at all times. They did not know that I snuck out every night. I didn't want to be rebellious but I felt suffocated and confined in such a little house. I rushed back into my room, hopping through the window I left open, hoping that my father would not think to check on me. Of course with my luck he did. I held my breath so he couldn't hear my heavy breathing. I was relieved when he started left without too close an inspection. Then I felt a rush of cold air and screamed at myself. How could I have left the stupid window open. My dad had felt the breeze too and turned to me.

"I know you're awake, don't try to pretend."

"Why is it so important to stay inside and what was your friend talking about?"

The shock on his face told me I had given too much away.

"You are too young to be burdened with the grave circumstance the world is truly in."

"Dad I'm seventeen years old."

He simply turned and left. Fine, I decided I would just find out for myself. My dad took all of our computers about a month ago saying that the internet was too unpredictable. Little did he know that I knew where he had hidden them. I was just waiting for the right time to take mine. I had no choice now. I had to know what was going on. I snuck downstairs to a false wall behind our TV. I had seen my dad countless times pushing a certain spot on the wall and entering the code on the keyboard that popped out. He never saw me of course. I made sure that my parents were asleep them pushed the spot in the wall and entered the code 9-2-8-16-5-2. The wall slid to the side. I quickly found my laptop and powered it on. As it powered on I wondered to myself if I really wanted to know. If it was so bad that my dad thought it better to keep it a secret...No, I had to know. I clicked on the internet bottom then goggled CURRENT NEWS. Instantly several disturbing pictures popped up. One showed a man who looked like he had been dead for years. As I kept searching I found more and more images. Then I finally read what they all were. VIRUS IS SPREADING EVERYWHERE...THEY CANNOT BE KILLED UNLESS YOU SHOOT THEIR HEAD. Then I saw a picture of someone I knew. My best friend TJ. I slammed the laptop shut and ran upstairs. I swore I would never leave the house. I didn't want to know what the world was like. I would do anything to survive.
