Treasure in the Desert part seven
“Mr Daniels surely you jest. None of the rocks look like gold or diamonds. Well one does resemble gold just a bit but the other looks like an old piece of coal”! replied an amazed Dora.
“Who's the Geologist my dear and do call me Jack”. said a whoop ass laughing Jack.
Will started laughing then Marlene giggled and Mo~Jo yipped. Then Dora started laughing.
“The two books by D H Lawrence look fascinating and I have ordered them from Amazon and they should be here in a couple of days. I can not wait to read them especially Mornings in Mexico”. replied Jack.
Jack was on a roll and continued saying: “Mornings in Mexico is a collection of travel essays and he is fantastic in catching the 'Spirit of Place' in a vivid manner.
The eight essays in the original volume are:
"Corasmin and the Parrots"
"Walk to Huayapa"
"The Mozo"
"Market Day"
"Indians and Entertainment"
"Dance of the Sprouting Corn"
"The Hopi Snake Dance"
"A Little Moonshine with Lemon"
This is a magnificent book! The collection of essays covers almost all that Lawrence was thinking about the importance of the American world between 1922 and 1928 and complete essays about Mexican and Southwestern Indians. I'll bet he was going to go relocate somewhere in Mexico.
My Dear Dora when I am finished I will lend my book to you for reading material on your quest to find the answer to your big mystery”.
“I get to read the book before Dora”. Said Will
They all sat down together and tried to put all the clues together. The bag Dora found contained the letter which was a big clue with a few important names. Dr Jess Craine was researched and nothing was found so far. His wife Bella Craine would be researched today by Bela, Jack, Will and Dora while Marlene tended to Mo~Jo.
Will finally contacted a colleague of his asking if he had ever heard of a Dr Jess Craine Md. His friend said he had heard of him.
The friend told Will that there was a doctor living in Mexico. The doctor asked no fees except an occasional dinner. The locals called him Dr Jess. He went to the local bar once a week where he bought one drink and then sat around with Senior Carlos the owner of the bar who was a close friend just shooting the breeze and asking him about the family. Senior Carlos said he was going to go sneak into the United States so he could bring his Mother back to Mexico. It seemed that his parents had lived in the states a long time but his father had recently passed away and the mother wanted to come back home.
Senior Carlos was going to just go over to the states through Nogales, pick up his MaMa and bring her right back. Dr Jess said he had left something in that area around Nogales and would travel with him if he did not mind. The two went on and when Dr Jess got to the area he told Senior Carlos he had to pick up a bag then he'd be right back. While Senior Carlos was waiting he heard some gunfire shots and a couple of men laughing. He waited until he heard the men laughing and carrying on then he got out of there and went to his MaMa's house. He quickly took her another way across the border to his home. He said he waited to see if Dr Jess would contact him someway such as phone or a letter but he never heard from Dr Jess again.
Will told them now they had to all do more research if a body had ever been found in the desert.
“We do make a great team, let's all take a trip to the park for hot dogs and milkshakes. That will be my treat” said Jack.
“I'll drive then” said Dora.
Marlene and Dora had a wonderful time with Mo~Jo while Bela and the men discussed the mystery. On the way home from her day with new friends, Dora thought how exciting to find out this information about where Dr Jess Craine had ended up living. She and the others figured he was going to find the buried bag and bring it back to Mexico but was interrupted by the men that were firing the gun.
She figured the next investigation was to find out if there had ever been evidence found of the doctor or his body. A real mystery.
