What the heck is going on, world?
The weirdest thing just happened to me. I was driving to work and stopped by DQ to grab dinner, only it was closed. Dairy Queen has NEVER been closed, not for the ten years I've been living here. Seriously, it's even open on Christmas and Easter. There were cars in the parking lot and food on the outside tables, but everyone was just gone.
My first thought was that someone must have broken in with a gun or something, but even though there were cop cars outside, there were no police officers around. I sort of poked around but felt weird doing it, like I was a criminal, so finally I just went to the meeting.
No one was there. It's not the first time they've cancelled without telling me, but last time I accidentally set off the alarm. This time, it was already going off when I arrived. The chairs were all turned over and the big glass window by the outer hallway was broken.
I'm still kind of jittery from it all. Nothing like this has ever happened to me. I called the police but they put me on hold. I didn't even know that emergency lines were allowed to do that.
So on my way back to the house because hey, a free evening is a free evening no matter how strangely the free-ness comes about, I turned on the radio but there wasn't any music, just some lady ranting about how it was the zombie apocalypse. I was thinking more the Rapture in terms of bad taste jokes, but clearly whatever was happening wasn't isolated in my area. After that I kind of just wanted to get home, so I called Mom on the way just to have company. She said that she hadn't heard anything about this, so we just chatted about brunch on Sunday. I was feeling alright, until I saw this thing in my rear view mirror as I was pulling into the driveway, kind of human sized but shuffling and shambling in the trees behind my house. Since I was already jumpy, I just yanked out the keys and ran inside, turning on all the lights. Yup, I'm a big adult here. Now I'm sitting here writing this jumping at shadows and wondering if I should wear the red or the pink lipstick to my blind date tomorrow, and I just remembered that I left the door unlocked downstairs because I heard it creaking.
