The ‘Thing’

It was during a freak lightning storm that it happened. I made an incredible discovery the likes of which will never be seen again. It was a muggy day early January out here in the Australian outback. The clouds overhead offered some relief from the sun but also turned a sweltering day into on to melt your innards. Despite the lovely weather we were having, I just had to get out of the house to run madly for the small natural spring about 2 km's from my house. The water was icy cool and refreshing but there was something different there that day that shortened my enjoyment of my usual favourite pastime. While floating on my back I heard a sound unlike anything I had ever even imagined hearing before. I don't know if I should describe it as a mewling shriek or a screaming hum. After expelling all the water I had tried to inhale I dragged myself out of the water and froze when the sound came again. Of course being me I decided to investigate the noise instead of running in the opposite direction like any sane person would. I crept through the underbrush and being as silent as possible(I'm not completely daft)I peared through the branches and felt my eyes expand to a size to big for my head. It was completely and totally the craziest thing I had ever seen! Backed up to a rock with it's leg tangled in the grass was a creature outside what anybody could imagine! It was cowering in tettor from a local tomcat who was probably about to eat it. Being someone who can't stand bullying of any sort I stepped in to assist the poor creature. The ugly brute of a tomcat took one look at me and turned on it's tail to flee. Can't imagine why it was in such a hurry. Hiding my thick tree branch behind my back I then turned my attention to the 'thing'. I don't know what else to call it. I will try my best to describe it to you but will never do justice to the bizarre 'thing'. It resembles a mish mash of shapes stuck together by a two year old armed with crazy glue. Its head is formed from a purple fuzzy triangle with SQUARE pink eyes and a green oval mouth that resembled an air duct grate. It's body was a blue rectangle with red stripes that was longest in width rather than height. It's arms and legs are completely crazy! They are bright canary yellow and the closest example I can give you are the arms on that little orange Mr. Men character who is always tickling all the others. It's hands and feet are like that of an ape but here is another freaky tidbit. It has another hand on the end of its stark white tail. Honestly the thing looks like it went ten rounds with a rainbow and some toddlers building blocks and lost. After calming the thing and untangling it's leg it was so grateful it followed my home and hasn't left me alone since, even when in the bathroom! And here is the real kicker, it can turn invisible. This means I will forever be the only person to know about the little menace, ahem, I meant the darling creature of course. If I ever even try to tell another person about it I will probably end up in the looney bin. So when I get blamed for all the messes it makes I just got to grin and bear it. Oh joy for me as the little 'thing' doesn't seem to be inclined to leave me any time in the future. Somebody SAVE ME!!!
