Youthful Bonds Revisited
Faces take shape; curves mould clothes
Discussions dissolve of the classmates we loathe
Interest re-awakens when Birthdays approach
Until soon too much contact seems to pry or encroach
We ponder on times when our lives shared a track
Detours ran close; we were just shy of a pact
Bonding proves simple among the ignorant youth
We had no need to question or formulate our views
We delve back into our youthful state
Politics? Philosophy?
We masticate
Deliberate
And realize we don't relate
Not to our old selves; not to our old friends
No solid bond forms around purposeless trends
How naive? How uninsightful could we have been?
To assume our desires would remain, time and again
We were blanketed in assurance of steadfast bonds
Never waning despite lacking challenging response
We relished in time that seemed placid and relenting
Now time seems menacing; deserving of resenting
We re-centre; "Heel" to the cynicism that ensues
Politics? Philosophy?
We deliberate anew
Reconstrue
And realize they're worth pursuit
So just as old models need inevitable upgrade
We conclude that new experiences are a valuable trade
We compartmentalize those memories and embrace the new
Wondering whether one day our paths will realign with an old few
