Traversal of Dihedran Part 1
Before the Universe was created, all that existed was a vast expanse of energy called “Syph.” Due to some of the energy becoming concentrated in some areas, dimensions were created. Rehan came first, Dihedran second, and the Universe came third. In certain areas of these dimensions were P.O.R.T.s ( Passages Of Riftational Travel), which allowed people deemed worthy by the guardians of the P.O.R.T.s to travel to and from different dimensions. As the demand for resources from foreign dimensions grew, the guardians were hunted down so that the P.O.R.T.s were able to be used freely. As the “bridges” between the dimensions were used more frequently they wore down and allowed Syph radiation to seep through, which killed most of the people it came in contact with, but some had managed to survive. The guardians then stopped supplying energy to the main P.O.R.T. which in turn closed all P.O.R.T.s. Thus trapping many people inside of the other dimensions, making them adapt to live in this new, permanent hostile realm. This caused what many people call “Destructio Pacis” in which all worlds were chaos. Bodies were strewn all over the streets that existed. Mass burnings were common to dispose of the bodies in order to prevent the spread of disease. Much culture was lost and is now referred to as the Dark Ages.
Soon after Destructio Pacis started, the people who had survived the Syph radiation developed an ability like none other. They developed the ability to syphon more energy to alter their surroundings to their will! These people were called syphoners and some people had grown extremely adept at certain classifications of Syph and formed groups for people who were adept at that classification as well. Obscurum was best at dark spells, Ignia was best with fire, Libra was balanced among all types not as good as others in some, but better at others, Aquas was best with water, while Lumen was best with Light spells. They were welcomed into society by the royal families as long as they served a purpose that benefited them. Obscurists made spying much more successful, Ignians made the mass burnings easier and cheaper, Aquans helped during the the years of drought, making it not as bad as it would have been, while Lumens helped armies by blinding the enemy troops and aiding in crop growth.
Many millennia after Destructio Pacis the story of the guardians has been labeled as myths and the P.O.R.T.s are considered stone carving used in ancient worship. Except for the syphoners everybody believes that what the scientists say is true. Syphoners now congregate in hidden area carved out of the ground called Syph cities. They are elaborate tunnels that only open when it receives a certain amount of Syph energy. Further in the tunnels are other gates that require more energy to open, only meant for the higher ranked syphoners.
The syphoners had a code in the Syph Agreement of 1848 that said that the existence of syphoners was to not be known by people outside of people who could syphon and their parents and siblings. That code has been held for many centuries with few falters and a few memory wipes. Despite their best efforts, a man who had seen syphoners in action, hired many people and tested them for this gift and had an underground department for them. He discovered them by using current technology that can discover syngs, or microscopic parts of us that are pure Spyh. Syphoners have more syngs than others, and more syngs means more power you can use without losing part of your life. Luckily for syphoners, you can’t find the syngs unless you are specifically looking for them. This man is in charge of a business known as Avrim Industries and had the syphoners develop an energy converter and power many P.O.R.T.s back on and to allow passage to the other dimensions. That started what many people refer to as the “Dimensional Age.” During this time the bridges didn’t break because they were artificially strengthened by using this energy converter.
Upon arriving at the Gates of Rehan a group of syphoners discovered that the gates were locked with an inscription on it that reads "What remains of the race of guardians reside here. All other sentient beings have been massacred as we were. If you wish to enter you must complete the Grand Quests. The first Grand Quest will begin in a dungeon of old, defeat the beast that sleeps upon mold, kill it quick or on your flesh it will feast, for the next grand quest you will crack the skull of this beast.- Quests of the Guardians 1/9." The eccentric ruler of Avrim Industries, Avrim, ordered to blast the gates down with his syphon squad, but, much to his dismay, their souls were ripped out of their bodies and strengthened the gates. He then sent a message through all syphon groups that whoever opened the gate and let him pass through would receive $50,000,000 and the position of president in Avrim Industries. He was so desperate that he even allowed non-syphoners to enter Dihedran after the first month.
This quest for the key to Rehan began a conflict between the syphoners, each wanting one of their own to be the one to find the key and earn the money, that would be heavily taxed by the syphoner group. Many issues ensues from this and caused a change in society that may never fully disappear.
