Who
Who are the lonely?
who sleep when sleep escapes
who tear apart a future
"What would have been." in shapes
Who are the lonely?
those bodies on the bench
mumbled phrases ticking
begging clouds to drench
Who are the lonely?
walking in a crowd
seeking pleading no one
eyes so bright and loud
Who are the lonely?
they can carry on
but not as one who accepts life
just doing as they've always done
We are the lonely
who begged God to hold them
but as the midnight whispered
from silence answers stemmed
I am the lonely
I ask that you realize
we've all walked in lonely
and lonely has no guise
Lonely meets us all
takes us by command
it speaks when we won't listen
and promises us its hand
"Marry me." says lonely
"I will never leave."
and as you almost answer
your stubborn strength will cleave
You'll shake it angry growl
and demand that it would go
and as it leaves you'll understand
that lonely helped you grow
