A Faraway Life
cars passing by
dripping wet in the rain
he waits on the corner
wishing for a refuge
his clothes soaked,
he feels wet to the bone
finally a car stops to let him go
but instead of just stopping
the window rolls down
inside is a woman
she calls his name
she is someone
he hasn't seen in a while
someone he wants to forget.
they were married in what seems
like a faraway life.
he approaches the car
she offers to give him a ride
it's clear she has put the past away,
somewhere locked inside.
he half-smiles,
he thinks how it's all just a shame.
he doesn't blame her for the past,
"I'll just walk." he says,
while he stands outside in the rain.
