Cinderelly
In the pale moonlight, a poor girl flew on a dance floor
She spun and twirled to her heart's content
The boy who guided her was clearly smitten with her beautiful face and fancy dress
She thought it was love
He led her to a romantic garden of wonderland
He sat with her and watched the stars twinkle delicately in the sky
And in an instant, the lie was revealed
The clock struck twelve
Her random curfew clawed at her skin
She flashed away like a dream
The last the boy saw of her was a flash of orange and an angelic shoe dazzling by the light of his posh castle streetlamp
He believed she was too beautiful to lose
She believed he was in love with her
He set out on a journey, a great quest to win her heart and see her gorgeous face once more
In her drab and dusty attic, she twirled like a flamingo in her crystal slipper
Like an awkward ballerina, she danced with visions of her own prince charming coming to rescue her, just as she had read about in books
He did find her
On that beautiful sunny morning, he strolled up to the house of his lovely model, bouncing on the balls of his feet
Giddy with excitement he went to knock on the old wooden door when he sa a disgusting sight
His princess was adorned with rags, not jewels
Her face was covered in ash and soot
Her hair was matted down with dirt and she had a childish smile on her grimy face as she spun mindlessly in circles on her glass foot
Blue and brown eyes locked for a single second in time before the truth was revealed
Her prince was not charming
He stormed away as she screamed for him to come back
She begged and cried as he gracefully stepped into his pompous carrage
The servant girl ran up to the carriage, sure that her prince simply hadn't known she was his one true love
Their eyes met, but there was no loving embrace
His stare was cold and harsh
Her fairy tale had come to a screeching halt as he spit on her blackened face and rode off into the distance
She didn't understand
Didn't he love her?
She raced after him, hobbling in her one beautiful shoe
As the moon shone on the road, the girl was still chasing her fantasy
It all fell apart
Her dream
Her crystal shoe
Her one memory of that magical night cracked under her weight, shattering into a thousand tiny pieces
Shards of glass pierced her callused foot as a red river flowed behind her
She thought it was love
She thought he had found her prince charming
As she made the long journey back to her prison, one thing was painfully clear
There are no happy endings
