The moon shines bright
The moon shines bright,
In the starless sky.
Across the valleys,
Across the sea.
The river lake,
An endless black.
Like a hole,
So deep and dark.
A single row boat,
Out on the river,
A young girl,
Sits on alone.
She paddles to the middle,
Preparing to dive.
Ready to start fresh,
Ready to try.
Jumping into the water,
Gasping for breath.
Knowing she won't make it,
She lets go at last.
The water against her skin,
Is dark and wet and cold.
Water burns her lungs,
And she tries to scream.
No sound emerges,
As she swallows her tears.
Remembering her choice,
As she faces her fear.
High above her head,
She sees the row boat.
Floating alone peacefully,
Rocking ever so gently.
The water brings her deeper,
As she sinks within.
A sudden feeling of calm,
Wavers inside her skin.
She knows it is okay,
As she stops to struggle.
Letting the water carry her,
She knows she's finally home.
And,
Across the sea,
Across the valleys.
In the starless sky,
The moon shines bright.
