Heaven Fears the Living - Part 2 -
When she woke up she was bathed in sweat, her sheets and blankets were on the floor and her room was deathly chill. Her curtains flew wildly about as the wind howled through into her room. She got up and closed the window and quickly threw on her clothes before climbing back into bed, shivering.
It was that dream again she thought, as she sat upright, the warmth returning as her blankets hugged her legs. Some dreams stay with you for days as your mind tries to decipher the hidden messages, others prefer to be forgotten the minute your eyes open. But this dream was a stalker who wouldn't give up, hung around like a bad smell, always lingering. Threatening.
She pulled out her phone and immediately slipped into text mode. As she typed the dream slipped away over her horizon.
You awake?
Ned: just. You good?
Okay :/ can't sleep.
Ned: wanna com over? It's cool.
Yes. Need company :)
She slid out of bed and grabbed her coat and scarf then walked to the door, opened it and headed outside, the dream forgotten amid the distractions of the now. Outside the wind had stopped and the streets were deserted, there was an eeriness about the still night that she found disconcerting, uncomfortable. She turned up the collar of her coat, even though she noticed it wasn't cold.
She walked the two blocks to Neds place, and was soon inside again, comforted by the presence of a friend. They talked and drank coffee, and the hours ticked by.
Ned was a good friend to her and he provided her with the escape she needed from that damned apartment she lived in.
She didn't notice that even by 8 next morning it was still dark outside, she didn't notice that Ned had gone into the kitchen ten minutes earlier and hadn't come out, and she didn't realise at all anything out of the ordinary until she woke with a start, bathed in sweat, her sheets and blankets where on the floor, and her room was deathly chill....
