Dear Diary,
If anyone is reading this it might be too late for me. I hope that it's not, and that I'm just sharing this entry with another survivor that I have met, but I doubt that is the case. As far as I can tell, there aren't many of us left.
Still, I think it will probably be best for me to leave this written account of my day. Maybe some later civilization will stumble upon this diary, and need to learn just how everything could go so wrong.
I was out with my friends. We don't go out all that often, but we'd decided to see a movie. We'd thought that it would be fun. It wasn't. We were half-way through the movie when the power went out. With the lights off, everyone panicked. People started going outside. Leaving the relative safety we had in the movie theater.
I can still hear their screams ringing in my ears. A few people got away, but most of those that tried to leave were turned into those creatures as well. They were turned into zombies. I wasn't sure how to kill the zombies. None of us were. Most zombie movies conflict on how exactly to kill them, but enough of us at the movies thought the best way would be beheading then burning the body that we thought to give it a try.
The zombies burned, but they didn't die unless they were beheaded, so there were several zombies that had been caught on fire from those next to them, but that still had their heads on them. The flaming zombies came into the movie theater, and I grabbed food and water from the snack bar and ran. I didn't know if anyone else made it out, or if any zombies were following me, or even where I was going. I just ran.
I don't know how this all happened. Where the disease came from. I'm sure if my friend Abi had managed to stay with me she would be able to decipher the cause of this outbreak, but I've never been too good at biology. All I know is that eventually if they can't find any food, the zombies will have to die out. Or at least I hope.
Now, I'm writing this. I'm trying to walk to water, as I'll probably survive best by a freshwater lake or river, but I don't think I'll last for long. And humanity definitely won't make it if I'm the last one left. I never knew I could feel so alone.
Wish me luck,
Cathy
