Mary was fitting in well with her new friends and also at her job. She was less shy and joined in with the conversations at lunch break instead of immersing herself in a book or newspaper. Lancelot saw the new change in her and thought to himself this is the woman I do want to spend my life with forever. he composed a poem and added his great grandmothers plain simple platinum gold ring.
My dearest Mary
Always on my mind
Our hearts will cling
life alone I dread
Please do not tarry
Say you will find
With a cherished ring
Let us forever be wed
love forever Lancelot
Mary was filled with happiness and immediately answered yes. They told Lucy, Lionel and Aunty Bea and also said they would go to city hall and marry. Aunty said the residents would have a party for them the next weekend they were down in camp and Mary and Lancelot thought that would be a splendid idea to share their joy with the new friends. The next was Monday they went to city hall and were married right after work. When their co-workers found out they had a surprise party on Friday at lunchtime. After work they scurried down to camp carrying a big box of plain pound cakes to share with camp. They told everyone they got married at city hall but Gramps and Ma Ma had a little ceremony with Mary and Lancelot standing back to back next to a thin bamboo pole while the children walked round and round them, like a May Pole. The parrots chanted:
Lancelot do you love Mary
Mary do you love Lancelot
turn around if you love
then forever you are bound
They turned around and the bamboo was gently lifted and the children unbound the newlyweds.
there was a party that night with all sorts of festivities. When bedtime came they went to Lancelot's room and were greatly surprised to see how the ladies, under the direction of Aunty Bea, had made it quite presentable for the two of them. Lionel said it was not a bachelor pad anymore with the women's touch. Lancelot told him he was pleased because now it looked like a home. Aunty Bea had gone up top on Tuesday to get a few things she needed and while up there at the department store she purchased two music boxes, One for Lucy and Lionel and another for the newly married couple.
