Found Out About You
Jack and Kaitlyn loved each other very much from the moment they locked eyes (and lips) one summer day during the state fair. Despite their living twenty minutes apart, which is quite the distance for young, star-crossed lovers, they were inseparable. Any allowance Jack earned from the ever-growing list of chores went toward funding bus fare to visit Kaitlyn. When he was short on cash, love letters with enclosed return postage would suffice.
As months rolled past, Jack found that he and Kaitlyn were increasingly consumed with the inevitable senior year creeping up. Jack received a car for his 17th birthday, but she refused offers to be taken home. Letters came to his house less often, and all of them were much shorter and significantly less sweet. His joy in finding she would be in a couple of his classes was shut down when she spoke only occasionally to him as they passed in the hallway.
"That girl, Kaitlyn," he would hear classmates say while they waited for their bus to arrive. "She's seeing Sam now."
"The running back? I thought she was dating the guy on the wrestling team?"
Jack's heart sank. He was so infatuated that he couldn't see the red flags right in front of him. It had to be their jealousy talking; Kaitlyn loved him just as much he did she, right? Jack was determined to find out first hand.
Jack detoured from his typical route home to travel what was once a nearly insurmountable distance to confront Kaitlyn. Parking on the curb outside her house, he noticed movement in the open window of the second story bedroom. It took no time to recognize Kaitlyn's nearly naked body as one of the players. The man who she was helping remove a shirt, he did not know, nor did he care. With the flick of a switch, the lights in the bedroom died. Almost as quickly, so did Jack, inside.
