Pause
My chest hurts a little. I take a deep breath. Well, it still hurts. I want so much to finish watching my TV show. Suddenly there is music and colors. May be this is commercial time I tell myself. Nope, I died.
"Who are you?" I ask the spirits of the home who once inhabited this place. Even the mice and little roaches introduced themselves. They all used to live here. The universe adds me to the list of people who called this place home. I see my body grasping a beer and the cigarette ash sitting in the ashtray with a small grey cylinder to the but.
Light is illuminating on the clicker. Even more so on the pause button. My dog is licking my dead face and steps on the pause button. My dog alerts my room mate who calls 911. The paramedics revive me but while I'm gone, I never stop seeing the most important bright image of the whole scene..the pause button.
I'm old now. But I pause.
Paws, pause. Take time to pause. It's a special powerful device.
