It’s All of You
I look into his eyes
But I don’t just see him
I see a little boy running around with his big brother and sister, careful not to break any of the antiques.
I see a ten year old playing football and basketball and never stopping for anything. Life is so simple and all that matters is the number in the scoreboard.
I see a fourteen year old in middle school finding out that singing is actually fun, especially with his friends by his side.
I see a seventeen year old who no one seems to know anymore. While his old teammates are at parties, he’s safe at home writing about kinds of love he’s never even touched.
I see him studying late at night and jamming out on his car ride home.
I see the passion of sports no longer within him, but replaced by an even grander and wilder admiration: music.
I see him achieve but stand alone.
Looking at him now,
I see my best friend.
And even more,
I see my person
