Erasure
Racism is basically modern day tribalism. We recognize that we look and act one way, and they are many groups who don't do exactly as we do. Those people become the dreaded them. Them who act so differently than we do. Them who don't believe and act exactly as we do, so they become this mysterious and complete polar opposite to us. This psychological and physical barrier comes up between these two groups, causing a rift in what could be such a wonderful trade of ideas and tricks to make surviving and thriving that much easier. That old proverb comes to mind. Two heads are better than one. Indeed, having two years striving towards the same goals makes everything in its difficulty reduce to half or even less. Sometimes those heads quarrel and coming the difficulty, but that's the risk we take in any joint venture.
The list of things that EVERY HUMAN BEING EVER TO EXIST, BEFORE, NOW, AND IN THE FUTURE, IN PERPETUITY, has in common with one another, is one hell of a list. The bullets on the other list that separates us are as arbitrary as drawing imaginary lines that separate the countries of the world. We impose these detractions and call these people this and those people that. We then align to those who give us benefit and further separate ourselves to those who don't see the world the way we do, worship the same god, rest the same diet, talk the same way, you fucking name it and it has become a way to separate one another evermore. I'm an adopted bastard Native American male who is a navy veteran and is a current college student, that maintains an omnivorous diet. That means there's a woman of Polish descent who is a vegan that opposes the military and institutionalized education and thinks that illegal immigrants deserve more rights than actual Native Americans who are still experiencing oppression by immigrants who are legal by the colonial immigrant children who took over the continent. Does that mean we could never be friends? At face value, it looks like that could be the verdict. If we removed all those labels, and put in absolute, scientific facts in lieu of imposed labels maybe we'll see a difference.
An adult male who consumes a variable diet, breathes air, sleeps a few hours in a 24 hour period, expels waste in solid and liquid form, and has the ability to create and utilize tools that reduce the work to complete tasks. An adult female who consumes a limited diet, breathes air, sleeps a few hours in a 24 hour period, expels waste in solid and liquid form, and also has the ability to create and utilize tools to reduce the work to complete tasks.
The only difference there was a slight dietary change. So, according to normal human etiquette, and social norms, these two are still enemies because of a slight difference. In nature, these two could benefit from each other and reduce the workload on both of them and even create a surplus of supplies. Man, isn't that just awesome?
Too bad working together for the common good and general welfare of all is such a faux pas these days.
