Beginnigs
Ok I’m supposed to write, right? Well how about I was writing and my WHOLE story disappeared!!!! OMG now I’m trying to start over but I don’t know if I have it in me. I better begin again. I hope that one day I find the story again to remember the nuances but I will try again.
Raymond sat in the hospital room looking at his baby a baby that was the most beautiful thing he ever saw. This was his child his creation the one thing that no one could deny as hard as people wanted to. Standing there holding his daughter yes HIS DAUGHTER, he was struck by how much she looked like her mother. Alex was in the hospital bed sleep, spent by the duty of childbirth, she was at peace. Raymond was just the opposite. Here he was a new father. He should be the proudest man on the planet, but no his heart was heavy. The door to the room slid open and in walked the reason for his discontent, Tyra. Tyra was his wife a mean spiteful woman with an agenda. If you didn’t fit into her little package you were to be eliminated. It didn’t matter what anyone else wanted, the only thing that mattered to here is that she got what she wanted. What she wanted was a secure future, that package was Raymond, she didn’t care it came at the expense of his happiness.
“Let’s go” she growled at a whisper as not to wake the baby or her mother whom she despised. “No, I’m not done holding my daughter Francine”. Raymond retorted. “Francine? That sounds like some country hick name that, that simpleton came up with”. She said pointing to Alex in the bed. “It was her grandmother’s name, and if you remember I’m from that the same area downeast, does that make me a simpleton too?” “No, Raymond, I’m just saying, you know it should be something prettier and more becoming like Chantal or Monique”.
“Oh so now we want your middle name on our daughter?” Raymond quizzed. With spite in her voice Tyra remarked, “You know I’m getting tired of you always bringing that up that, you and Alex made this baby! I go away for the weekend with my Sorority sisters last year and I come back and she is pregnant?!!” “Maybe you should have stayed down there in Florida” Raymond said flatly, “Maybe I should have listened and gone ahead with the divorce then.”
“Oh yeah, then where would you be?” she shot back “With this loser?” Indicating the sleeping Alex. “No you best stick with me kid that is if you want your six figure income and social status to stay intact”.
Raymond lowed the baby back in her bassinet and kissed her on the head. “Daddy will always take care of you no matter what”. Being more than sarcastic Tyra said to the baby, “Not if I can help it!” By this time Raymond has had enough and snatched his wife’s arm, and put his face directly in front of hers and says, “Listen, you hard-hearted, little bitch, you can say what you want to about Alex, cause she can fight for herself but, if I ever hear you say ANYTHING against my daughter again you WILL have hell to pay!”
Alex started stirring in her bed from the commotion, Tyra afraid of retribution scrambled for the door. Alex still groggy tried to speak and sit up. What..What’s going on…All at once with remembrance, she bolted upright and says, My baby! Raymond went to the bed to calm her. “No shhh, she is fine see, she’s is right here”. Pointing to the sleeping infant in the clear plexiglass container.
“Oh hey, Ray, who was that? Whose voice was that I heard?” Alex spoke with a groggy voice. Raymond responded, “Nobody important, you just rest, before Ms. Francie wakes up and you have to deal with her.” Alex giggling said , “Yeah my life will never be the same again, will it?” Raymond countered, “Correction our lives will never be the same.” Pausing Alex stated firmly, “No Ray you have to go with your wife, honor the vows you took. We were foolish and drunk that night, this should have never happened.”
Confused and concerned Ray sat on the edge of the hospital bed and said, “What, what should have never happened? Love? Making of a beautiful baby? The possibility of what could still be? “
Trying not to be hopeful, being a realist Alex slowly repeated, “You must go with your WIFE and not let anything put you asunder.” Searching his hands, “That would only apply if I was in this marriage voluntarily not being held captive by a madman and his company” stated Raymond flatly jumping up to pace the room. “I want more than anything to be out from under this cursed contract, but if I divorce Tyra, I lose my job and if I lose my job I can be sued by Xadrez for breach of contract and have to surrender all of my ideas and inventions to that crazy man for the rest of my life.”
“Yes that’s the terrible situation that you are in”…began Alex. “But the thing that I don’t want to lose is you! You and OUR beautiful daughter! Raymond retorted” “As I was saying, My life will never be the same, yours will only get brighter” Alex said finishinishing her thought.
“I will have my attorney draft papers for Child support and anything else you want, just please let me be a part of her life, Alex, please?!!” Standing there almost begging her for some connection to her and her daughter’s lives, Alex couldn’t help but smile. This man really did love her, and now his daughter. Too bad that he was someone else’s husband, even though he was tricked into it. The fact remained he was married. Her Grandmother Francine said the Lord will never give you another woman’s husband to be yours. Marriage is a covenant and is not made to be broken. The one who breaks that covenant up will have to answer for it. And that wasn’t going to be her.
