Broken Voice

If you sing to the mermaids

And your voice is soft

They come when you’re drowning.

If you sing to the mermaids

And your voice is peaceful

They sing back.

If you sing to the mermaids

And your voice is deep

They dance in the waves.

If you sing to the mermaids

And your voice is broken

They will take you home.

If you sing to the mermaids

And your voice is strangled

And you recognize the pain

You know the hurt

And you see the beauty

They accept you as their own.
