3rd Grade Crush
It started with an innocent smile shared between us.
Your tiny hand held mine as we giggled and played all day.
When school was over, you’d say good bye
I would rush over to you to give you a peck on your cheek.
We dreamed of going on great adventures together.
You drew stick figures of us on pirate ships in outerspace
We would never be apart
We would fight evil monsters two by two or so I thought.
As time moved on, we grew to see the real “monsters”
I was labeled “weird” and “uncool”
You thought it was cruel
But, you stayed silent, because you wanted to fit in.
And so you left me behind for the “upper tier crowd”
You took my heart and left me alone to fend off the “monsters”
I’d create a time machine to tell myself
That boys like you don’t deserve my tears.
