Blood
I walked calmly down the street. I was used to seeing all the terrible things that lay everywhere I went, even know I knew it was wrong.
Blood is spewed everywhere. People—the formerly most sophisticated of all creatures on earth, according to my history books—are no different than savage beasts. They kill and feast with no regard to the well-being of anyone except their spouses and young. Leftover carcasses are strewn across the streets.
The streets. They're no longer used for what they were previously used for. They're just there now. Once in the past people had big hollow metal things on wheels called "cars" that they used to get to places quicker. These "cars" are everywhere still, but they're all rusted and worn. None are made any longer, but I have heard that some people strive to recreate these "cars."
As I continue to walk, I look in the broken glass panes placed in the holes of big walls of brick that make spaces that people used to put things in a sit in when it was cold. There are still some things on the other side of the glass, but it's all dusty and there are cobwebs and spider webs seemingly dotting the corners and spaces between things.
I've always wanted to go into one of those places. I want to go through the items that lie in there, untouched for decades—maybe even centuries.
I look once more at the street, the blood splattered everywhere. I see carcasses of dogs, cats, rabbits, raccoons, squirrels, birds and…
"Jared!"
I rush over to the carcass of the boy, my friend, his blood still slowly seeping from a cut in his side. He had scrapes and cuts all over his skin.
"Jared, what happened?"
"I-I was trying to go home..." His voice was barely above a whisper.
"Go on." I said urgently.
"An-and a few boys jumped me."
"Who?" I gasped, almost jumping up.
"The... Sam-Deans.."
"How could they do this to you? I know that there's competition between your family and theirs, but how could they do something so terrible?"
Jared just shook his head and stopped moving.
"Something needs to change." I choked out softly.
