Homage. Choose a writer you admire. Write something in the style of that writer, or something that takes place in a world they created. Include the author's name at the beginning or end of your piece so we know who the homage is to.
A Nation’s Dream Deferred
What happens to a nation’s dream deferred?
Will the people’s democracy shine
beneath the rule of the gun?
Or does it diminish slowly --
under the resolve of ‘The One’?
Does the illusion of strength, grow, when we rise to our feet?
Or does it need our ‘allies’ --
to send in, another fleet?
Perhaps the citizens will get what they want
so long as they do what they’re told.
Or does the initial problem of pseudo-stability merely reload?
