Challenge of the Month III: January
New beginnings, a fresh start. A new chapter in an old story, or a new story altogether. Write about the start of something new. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose. $100 purse to our favorite entry. Outstanding entries will be shared with our publishing partners.
Captive
At this starting,
There is enough smarting,
But after the parting,
There is no imputing.
To begin as new,
With my lessons few,
I have to learn to chew,
What I need to eschew.
On this fresh page,
I want no marks of age,
At this stage,
I want no excess baggage.
I am a new package,
That came from all this wreckage,
Now I want to give a message,
To assuage.
In this new room,
I want to break free and zoom,
I want to get out of gloom,
From this feeling of doom.
I have a new perspective,
It is receptive and subjective,
Making me less susceptive,
Holding me no more a captive.
