Incubator’s Desire
The last round between life-support capsules and the adaptation of new organisms for her was an everyday affair, which, if desired, she could make her eyes closed. Go to the capsule, press the immersion button, press the button for feeding the active elements and voa la ready. There were about a hundred capsules at her disposal, and almost all of them were connected to a growing device.
In this position, she spent her entire adult life, and this is not less than a decade, for which she never got used to the dark basement room of the laboratory. Undoubtedly, it was the best job that a resident could afford, best equipped and simple managed, the room was considered the best hatchery center in the whole district. They got young here immediately after birth and for twenty years became guests of an improved system for growing healthy organisms suitable for life on the planet.
The capsules were of no interest to the woman. And even if curiosity took it up, it was impossible to see what was going on behind muddy covers.
“Ninety-eight, ninety-nine” ...
There was the last capsule, newly arrived. A woman approached her and read the figures on the monitor.
″ Girl. Estimated height - two meters, estimated weight, hmm, my copy is straight. ”
She grinned and turned to the long mirror wall to see herself better.
For a second, it seemed that a sound came from the capsule and she turned back in surprise.
“Seemed?”
Some new feeling took hold of the woman and long hooked fingers reached for the switch. The hiss of a hiss capsule gently lay back, giving the inhabitant a full view of the living thing. In case the baby starts screaming or crying from a sudden exit from sleep, she left her fingers on the switch, but met her eyes with a girl. Even thousands of children’s voices would not be able to move the resident from the place.
The woman gently touched the cheek of the child. “Smooth and warm.” She returned to the mirror and ran her hand over her face. “Rough and cold.” She did the procedure again, again and again convinced of the obvious differences between them.
A blue-eyed girl with porcelain skin looked at her new acquaintance with interest and finally smiled.
A smile shook across the woman’s body and she turned back to the reflection. Rough shreds of dark brown skin alternated with warty processes of dark green tones. The head was streaked with gray grooves protruding over each other. The side holes, which she affectionately called shells, exuded colorless mucus, which was immediately absorbed by the massive neck. But eyes. The eyes were different. They remained as pure as the morning cloudless sky and looked at her with all love that the soul is capable of.
The muddy surface shook from the resident’s furious blow, but survived.
The monitor next to the capsule lit up, warning about the danger of an intrusion of the security system and the woman hurried to close the lid, prudently grabbing the child from the capsule.
“Two milligrams is enough for her.”
Carefully taking the bundle in hand, she made her way to the exit.
The guards would not have let her out just like that, but the plan had already matured in her head and she could only put it into practice correctly.
“Good morning,” the guard said affably, “Oh you are pregnant, I hope it will be a boy, we have a shortage.”
The woman smiled and skittered out. The hands supported an overhead small bed for carrying, which perfectly matched the shape of the pregnant belly.
“She will wake up in a few minutes, but how much i’d love to see her again.” She knew that she would be caught, such a theft was regarded as a threat to the whole society, but the feelings she experienced were far from conscious and explainable.
Running around the corner and looking over the shoulder, she unwrapped the bundle to see it in the sun.
The shadow fell from the face of the baby and the skin heated to the limit. The rays did not spare the tiny creature, inflicting severe injuries every second, but the resident did not give up, she longed to see life, which was transformed from beauty into deformity. When the dark woman’s green skin turned crimson in color, she looked at what was left of her treasure. The sun has disfigured an unadjusted body. And only the eyes remained as clear as the morning cloudless sky. They looked at her with all love the soul was capable of.
