Mr. Spock Was Right
Ever the pragmatist, Mr. Spock, arguably the most famous of all extraterrestrials, and Captain Kirk's grounding influence, never did figure out exactly how we humans think. Presented with facts which seem to solidly support a specific, logical conclusion, we often make emotion-based decisions which are polar opposites to where an intelligent mind would normally end up. A perplexed Mr. Spock, with one raised eyebrow, would sum up his exasperated confusion with one word, "Fascinating."
This is one of those instances.
Homosexual and bisexual behavior are common in nature, especially in mammals. Our closest relatives, the chimpanzees, are overwhelmingly bisexual. All species of porpoise have a significant percentage of individuals who exhibit same sex orientation. Birds, fish, and reptiles, to name just a few, have been observed engaging in same sex courtship and coupling. Even some species of worms!
It's obvious to any objective observer that homosexual individuals make up a significant percentage of the population of thousands of species.
There is one type of human behavior that does seem to be unique, however, and that is homoPHOBIC behavior. With this in mind, perhaps people who display homophobic attitudes should ask themselves exactly which group's actions are unnatural.
Of course, the tacit approval which they receive from our religious and political leaders compound the problem.
Fascinating.
