Challenge of the Week CXI
A Grave Mistake. Write about a mistake. Perhaps grave, perhaps not so grave. Fiction or non-fiction, poetry or Prose.
THE DEAD MARRIAGE
My grave mistake was when I said, 'I Do'
Please listen carefully, since this could be you
It’s been 40 years since I've said those words
Living a lie instead of saying, 'good-bye'
Faking a love that didn't stand a chance
Cringing inside when he gave me 'the glance'
I'd close my eyes, feigned I wasn't there
Faking a smile, holding in tears
So now I'm destroyed and wasting away
Not just my body, but also my soul
I've been dead all these years, empty and cold
My youth was stolen and now I am old
My grave is prepared and I have no fears
'Cuz I've already been dead
For these long, long, years.
