Starting over (ch 6)
1707-1709
It has been several weeks after the crew of the black ravens returned home. Most of the crew have left and decided to stay home permanently. Only Benjamin, Smith, Jonathan, and Damein were all that was left of the crew. They were still recovering from what had happened to them and to Isabella. However Jonathan had gotten the worse of it. When the crew returned home, Jonathan was never the same. He would often talk to himself at nights and sometimes have horrid nightmares about what Flint did to him. We were all traumatized at what he did to us. The things he did to us, the torture and the humiliation, were things that were going to stay with us for the rest of our mortal lives.
Weeks had gone by for the Caldwell brothers, who were trying to readjust into civilian life, as well as formulate a plan to get revenge on Flint. One morning, Damian got out of bed and got dressed ready for the day. As he got his plain shirt on, he looked in the mirror and saw the scars and bruises on his faces, some were still healing while others still had some pain to the touch of a finger. Next thing to happen was the mirror shattering upon Damian punching it with his right fist. His hand bled and twitched from the impact. Grabbing a nearby towel, he cleaned his hand and finished getting dressed. Making his way to the kitchen, he saw his mother and his brother. Jonathan was playing with a musket ball while their mother was making breakfast. She said nothing and continued cooking. Both the brothers could tell that she hasn’t gotten over her ordeal, with the loss of her husband, their father, and her excruciating torture at the hands of Flint and his crew.
“Morning ma” said Damien, Isabella turned around and smiled at her son
“Morning mijo, how are you feeling. Any better?”
Damian grabbed a seat next to his brother. “Define better ma”.
She handed them breakfast which consisted of eggs, potatoes, beans, sausage and fresh milk. Damian started eating while Jonathan continued to look at his food. He then opened his mouth and once he spoke, his voice was more huskier and heavier than usual
“So is this it, is this what we do now.
