Distance
You hope for a story of lovers separated,
Miles placing barriers around their hearts;
A tale of determination and romance,
A reason to believe in never giving up on true love.
Hope can lead to deliverance;
Yet here, disappointment will prevail.
There will be no distance between lovers,
Only a gaping hole between mind and heart.
Fooled by a name given for something indescribable,
You received a recital of distance of another kind.
One that is terrifying to speak of;
And this is why I write.
She lied upon the fabric that once cradled her delicate being;
Regrettably no longer a place of comfort.
Uneasy from clawing at the memories;
Crawling, ferociously, out of her skin.
Experience has placed her upon a bed of thorns,
Invisible chains adorn her wrists.
With thoughts of disappearing to a place,
Where the pink peonies await.
