Weapons of the Wounded (False Dichotomies)
We dance.
Demons underneath engaged in battle
Mine, blazing forward
Yours, phasing back
I crush you with heavy words and quick decisions
You cut me with silence and inhibition
I wail, my “why’s” piercing your gentle ears
You asphyxiate on stuck words
Shocking my heart with your lack of answers
Beating each other down
Both acting in spite of our higher selves
I fall to my knees, tears imminent
I look up and straight into you
You lever yourself down to meet my eyes
Your pain never quite reaches the surface the way mine does
but I see it, behind the mask that I cracked open
And we stare
Both sorry for things that existed long before this
Things neither of us were responsible for
We stare
into mirrors, dungeons, oceans
We’ve fought ourselves and each other
unable to turn our joint efforts onto the common enemies
Loneliness and Inadequacy
We stare
And see
We stare
And see
That we are one in the same
