No Fossil Fuel Money Beto O’Rouke Takes The Pledge
I wanted to write a short note to let you know that I’ve signed the No
Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. I’m doing this in large part because I was
asked to by students that I met at William & Mary University when we
were in Virginia. Students, activists and young people I’ve met all
over the country already understand that we don’t take PAC money or
accept help from corporations, lobbyists, and special interests.
But given the enormity of our challenge to keep this planet from
warming 2 degrees over pre-Industrial Revolution levels, we wanted to
take this additional step. We know that the planet has already warmed
more than 1-degree Celsius just since 1980 — helping to cause historic
fires, floods, droughts, and the cost of human life that we've seen
and continue to see throughout this country and the world. This
warming is caused by our own excesses, our emissions and our own
inaction in the face of the facts and the science. We need everybody
on board to meet this challenge, and we don’t want there to be any
real or perceived conflicts of interest.
In accordance with the pledge, we returned any money we’ve received
over $200 from any fossil fuel company executives. We will not take
any of that money going forward. And we will continue to try to run
the largest grassroots campaign in this country.
All people, all fellow Americans, all focused on the same goal:
confronting climate change before it’s too late. Before I go, I want
to say to those students, especially those at William & Mary who spent
the time to talk with us, thank you for your advocacy and your
leadership on this issue. I look forward to working with you going
forward.
If you’re ready to be part of this grassroots effort, make your first
donation now. Your donations mean so much for our people-powered
campaign that refuses checks from PACs, special interests, lobbyists,
and corporations.
