Does it not make us like them

I’ve always had mixed emotions about the death penalty. I do understand why the death penalty was first introduced to our society, but at the same time I think aren’t we as a human race just scooping to the suspects level. We watch television series and movies showing how the families of victims and other people sit and watch as another human in being killed. The sad thing to me is although this person that committed horrible crimes, no one shows the slightest hint of empathy. Yes this person is awful, but at the same time the death penalty has made the people in our world okay with seeing another person die.
