Challenge
Poetry contest. Twenty word minimum. First place will be decided based on the poem, of course, though the number of comments posted by others will be factored in (critiques or praise, no one word or three word quickies) and those who comment should "like" it to keep the judges looking for updated reads. Write a poem about anything. Aim for the gut. Winner gets $100.
Double-Edged Sword
Self-destruction or soul-destruction;
No one knows which one is worse.
Cigarettes or sadness;
Let’s see which one’s stronger.
You could choose to kill sadness with nicotine,
with the consequences of terminating your lungs,
or, you could choose to let it be,
with the consequences of terminating your soul.
Whichever one you end up with,
remember this: Learn whatever lesson you can
Aim for the gut, if you still can.
For courage will be your only friend,
regrets, your best companion.
