Not without a Heart

“Who needs a heart when I can have all the magic in the world?” He’d said, before trading the pulsing red organ in his chest for a pulsing red flame in his hands.\

Turns out, he did. Because magic, like all things, can begin without a heart behind it, but it cannot persist that way. Gradually, he lost passion for his spells and his inks, lost his love for the unknown and the undiscovered. Gradually, none of it mattered at all anymore.
