Gender-Based Violence In South Africa
South Africa has one of the highest gender based violence rates in the world.
In fact some experts have said that it is comparable to countries at war.
South African Femicide is five times higher than the global average.
A woman is killed every four hours in South Africa.
South African Staticics show that in 2017/18 for every 100,000 adult women 15.2 were murdered.
A number of media reports and goverment statements said that inbetween 2015 and 2016/17 femicide in South Africa had increased by 117%.
We can no longer be silent.
We need to take a stand
We need to end the femicide
We need to end the war on women.
The father of our country Nelson Mandela did not
Spend 27 years in prison
and dedicate 64 years of his life
to this country just for it to end up in the state it is in.
As our Anthem sings ;
‘United we shall stand.’
we must come together in our
love for our mothers, aunts, sisters, wives, daughters
in order to fight against gender based violence.
We need to unite as
A population
A nation
but most of all
A community
in order to face this issue.
In the same way we did during apartheid.
In the same way Mandela taught us to.
‘Let us live and strive for freedom’
We need to strive for the freedom
to go out in public without the fear of falling victim to violence.
