They Don’t Understand
They don't understand,
Not the well-meaning friends and family who tell me to "drop it."
They don't understand,
Not how cliche sayings invalidate my feelings.
They don't understand,
Not the therapist who dismissed my annoyance at the cliche sayings with cliche sayings of his own.
They don't understand,
Not the well-meaning friends and family who don't see what a toxic person she is.
They don't understand,
Not how her words and accusations shook me up and hurt me at the core.
They don't understand,
Not the therapist who dismissed my anger, hurt, and frustration with an anxiety diagnosis.
They don't understand,
Not the well-meaning family and friends.
Not how the hurt and pain over this deliberate exclusion makes me feel.
Not the therapist who thinks I'm an easy fix.
They don't understand so I don't talk about it anymore.
