A Run in the Woods
A bitter wind hit her face,
bitter, like a strongly brewed cup of coffee.
Crying was not an option,
death was neither.
Even though her legs stung, she kept going
faster and faster.
Gaining on me, she thought, he's gaining on me.
His footsteps echoed close behind her.
I will get away, she thought, I have to.
Just as she thought it couldn't get any worse,
karma caught up to her.
Luckily, she was fast and avoided the root on the forest floor.
Maintaining her speed, she dodged a tree and kept running.
Now, the man was close,
only a few strides behind the girl.
Psycho, this man is a psycho, was all the girl could think.
Quickly, she dodged another tangled root,
running with all of her might.
Still, the man was close behind.
Trip.
Uh-oh. The
vile man stopped when he reached her.
Weeping, the girl begged to be let go.
Xysters were pulled out of his pocket. His weapon of choice.
Yesterday, everything was normal.
Zoning in and out of consciousness, the girl finally welcomed eternal sleep.
