Is an Air Purifier and Humidifier the Same Thing
It is common to use certain things related to air condition and quality in a room in which air purifier and humidifier will come to contention. They are named differently so that it is highly possible they are having different functions. Unfortunately some people do not really get the idea of them while just pick one of them to use. It is important to at least understand the basic of each one of them before deciding to use one. So, are they the same?
Humidifier
This equipment has its main function to add moisture into the air so that there will be no dry air inside a room where it is placed. The moisture produced by vaporizing water within the humidifier thus the reservoir should be regularly filled with air. The produced vapor will really be in form of a fine mist that commonly is not visible.
That delivers the idea of humidifier will be at its best use in dry areas or within dry season of certain areas. Dry air could lead to dry skin, sinus issues, throat irritation, breathing problems, and even nosebleeds at some points.
Unfortunately when the so-called humidity level is too high that is not good either. High humidity level will lead to mold growth, mildew, and dust mite production so it has to be properly used. The recommended level of humidity in a room is in between 30 percent and 50 percent. The level below 30 percent is too dry and above 50 percent is too wet.
Air Purifier
Meanwhile this thing has its function to remove any airborne contaminants within an indoor space. This sounds to be a bit more serious than humidifier, right? Bacteria, dust particles, mold spores, allergens, smoke odors along with some other harmful particles within an indoor air could be trapped and removed by air purifier.
In short, it cleanses the air without the capability to add moisture to the air. It works by sucking the air within an indoor space to be filtered through a set of HEPA filters. The filtered air will be released back to the space so that the overall cleanliness of the air will be improved bit by bit. In order to get the best possible outcome of this thing, true HEPA filters should be inside the air purifier.
It is clear now that the so-called air purifier and humidifier are not the same thing at all. Each one of them offers different functions and benefits in which they can even be used within the same indoor space at once.
Those who live in a dry area should consider getting a humidifier first which will help add moisture to the indoor space. Those who have sinus issues triggered by dry air should consider using it as well. Meanwhile when the problem is mostly allergies due to bad air condition, the thing to use is definitely air purifier. Air purifier will also be recommended when there is a problem of odors caused by pets, cooking, and mold.
