Hope Lights Winter’s Window

White-capped mountains,

Ice-silk, starched by the Sun

Snowflakes melt to fountains

Streams of trickling waters run

Buds dress barren branches

To bear leaves spring winds will comb

For now they’re filled with finches

Soon to nest their babies’ home

Green wakes up and yawns

From under cover of the muck

Stretching into lawns

Dotted with clovers marked for luck

Chilly days and nights remain

Snow is forecast, too

But, little signs that winter wanes

Keep hope within my view
