Egret Dreams
Praying mantis like in your gentle movements,
You step gracefully through the shallows of the marsh.
Observing patiently, waiting for your next catch.
Feeling the moment, the position of the sun, the current.
In this moment nothing else exists but your reflection in the water,
And the minnows at your feet.
You Egret, feel your surroundings and move to their tune.
Striking your beak into the water,
And retreating calmy.
Striking and retreating again,
Until you make your catch.
As the sun begins to fade you lift from the water elegantly,
Wings expanding and body lifting.
Levitating to your leafless tree on the coast.
It’s here your tribe awaits - perched.
Their iridescent white plumage - your beacon in the fading daylight.
It’s time to rest your tired feathers alongside the others.
Underneath the stars and above the sea,
Egret dreams of grace and ease.
