Grandpa’a Story
Mia was 4 years old,and lived with her parents, who loved her very much. On this particular week her grandparents were visiting, and even though they were old and slow, they gave the house an energetic feel.
Mia had woken up earlier that she normally did to the sound of rain pattering on her roof. As she watched the rain outside her window, she had a desire to go and play in it, and even though she knew there was a strict curfew, and an even stricter punishment for breaking it.
As she got on her rain boots and found her umbrella, she noticed a dim light coming from the main room. Intrigued, she put down her umbrella and went to go see the source of the light. Carefully she opened the door and tip toed slowly across the hard, cold, tile that made up the floor.
Adrenaline rushing through her she quietly peeked her head around the corner. To her relief, the mysterious light was just the lit pipe of her grandfather. When her grandfather saw her he said "Mia is that you?", in reply Mia came out from the wall and nodded. Her grandpa extinguished his pipe and after examining her attire of the rain boots and a coat and inquired "My dear Mia,why do you have your rain boots on?" Mia,somewhat ashamed that she had been caught trying to sneak out in the rain, explained "I just wanted to go play in the rain." "Child you know you can't go outside this early, it's against the law" grandfather gently told her. Gloomily she admitted "I know."
"Mia,dear do not get sorrowful, would you like to hear a story?" Mia loved her grandfathers stories almost as much as the man himself. So gleeful she exclaimed "Yes!" With that Mia's grandfather began the tale.
"It happened long ago when I was not much older than you, perhaps 9 or so. I was outside my families little cottage playing by the forest we lived by, when I noticed a beam of light floating just beyond the forest entrance. Fascinated I followed the light that was about the size a baseball. It went deeper and deeper into the woods. But I followed anyways without any care to warn the others where I was. The more I followed it the more I believed I was following a pixie . I followed that pixie for two hours, until it lead me to a small opening among the dense trees. Exhausted by the journey I sat to rest. But as I sat down the pixie vanished without a trace. I look for the pixie, but could but see any hint that it had ever been there.
"I did not know where to go or where I was. As the truth that I was truly lost with no directions sunk in I started to cry. First just tears noiselessly streamed down my cheeks, but as the minutes went by the crying became sobbing, full on hysterical sobbing. I don't know how long I sat there crying to myself it could have been a few minutes or a few hours, that I do not know. But eventually I had no more tears to shed,so I sat there staring up at the illuminating moon that shine bright in the sky.
"Sometime after I had stopped sobbing I heard a voice, it was a quite, gentle one asking me something. But u could not here what they were asking I said "Excuse me, but could you say that again." The voice came again this time questioning me a little louder saying "Are you from The Village?"
I was indeed from The Village and had lived there most of my life. It was just month's before they my family had moved to the cottage by the woods. So I announced, trying not to make my voice quiver that I was from The Village. The suddenly I saw a swift movement out of the corner of my eye.
