Hidden
The room went dead silent, all the crowd could do was stare on in horror at what stood before them. One of three Kirim sisters stood at the end of the runway, laying at her feet was the shattered remains of the mask that once hid her true nature, her true face. A shrill scream pierced the silence. The Kirim sister's secret was out, and it wouldn’t go unnoticed.
“Hurry up Quinn! We’re going to be late for rehearsal!” Scarlet yelled to her sister, who was still getting ready. “I’ll be down in a second! I have to grab my mask!” Quinn replied, grabbing the doll-like mask she and her sisters wore to hide their faces. Each mask had different makeup for an Evening look, Day look, and Runway look, so you could tell each sister apart. She slid the mask on and pulled her hair up into a high ponytail before rushing out to join her sisters. It was normal to wear a mask, if it covered your mouth and nose fully; so, it didn’t matter if it was a full-face mask or just one that covered the bare necessities. Decorated, non-decorated, masks of all kinds were seen. Ever since Covid-19 hit, this has become the new normal. Fans would push each other out of the way to greet the three sisters, paparazzi would also surround the sisters, asking question after question and saying the sister's names to get good shots of them. The sisters wouldn’t mind, they loved being in the spotlight, even if it meant they couldn’t keep secrets from the world; they would gladly sign autographs and take pictures with their devoted fans. But life in the spotlight would be the one thing that would bring the sisters to their ultimate, and truly unexpected demise.
“Scarlet! Quinn! Brooke! You made it! I was worried sick about you three! Go get in hair and makeup and meet me at costumes!” Their Producer said, ushering the girls over to three waiting chairs. A few minutes later the girls were all dressed up and ready to strut their stuff down the runway through their second to last rehearsal. This needed to be perfect, the director reminded them. This show would be broadcast live across the world and they couldn’t afford any mistakes. All of the models wore masks like the Kirim sisters, to make it seem normal and not make the sisters stand out as much. Dazzling ball gowns adorned each model's body, fit to accentuate their curves, body shape, and size. Most of the time they don’t practice this much, but with a bunch of new models joining them they needed to make sure every little detail was perfect, from walking down the runway to posing, and lighting. There would be a live audience at this show, making the pressure to be perfect even more prominent. Executive’s from huge company’s like Victorias Secret, Gucci, Prada, And Luis Vuitton would all be there looking for their next top model.
But waiting in the shadows was someone the sisters knew all too well. Their Ex-Best-friend, Naomi. Naomi planned to sabotage their big show, but she knew it would be difficult. How would she get a hold of one of their masks to sabotage them? But she had a plan in mind. It would be difficult, but if she worked hard enough, it could be done. What had made Naomi want to do this? Well, it all started when the four became friends in kindergarten. They would spend every second they could together. But as they grew, the girls would slowly spend less and less time with Naomi. In 6th grade, Naomi wasn’t even in the picture at all. They became friends again in high school, and the sisters taught her their secrets on how to be a good model. The four went to audition for a small modeling agency after high school, and Naomi was ecstatic. But something wasn’t right. The sisters had sabotaged her audition, making her look like an absolute fool in front of the judges. The sisters made it in and slowly gained their fame while Naomi was stuck working a 9 to 5 job at an office. She would never forget the day they ruined her dreams, and now she would plot her revenge.
The day had come for the sister's big show in Paris, the show they had been waiting for their whole lives. Unknown to them, one of their masks had been sabotaged. The light’s dimmed and spotlights sprung to life, all chatter dying down as the crowd’s attention went to the now illuminated stage. At first things went as planned, the first few models doing a perfect job on the runway. It was time for the first Kirim sister to strut the runway. Unknowingly to the crowd and models, Naomi was looming in the shadow’s, waiting to watch her plan fall into place. A loud Crack rang throughout the room. Scarlet and Destiny watched in horror as Quinn’s mask shattered and fell to the ground at her feet.
The room went dead silent except for the music playing in the background, all the crowd could do was stare on in horror at who, or what stood before them. Quinn stood at the end of the runway, laying at her feet were the shattered remains of the mask that once hid her true face. A shrill scream echoed through the room, as people scrambled to get the exits. Others were frozen in fear. Quinn’s face was rotting away; maggot’s crawled on her cheekbones, one eye was hanging out of its socket while the other was just gone. Her lips were carved into a permeant smile. The cameras were still rolling. All the world could see her horrific face. Quinn ran back into the back of the runway, her sisters followed as they ran out onto the streets of Paris.
Chaos ran rampant in the fragrant filled streets, some trying to find out what was happening, other’s forming an angry mob to chase down and kill these monsters. The sisters held each other's hands as they prepared to surrender to the angry mob, whispers of “I love you” were shared between the sisters as they were surrounded by the mob. Fire engulfed the sisters, and their screams filled the now silent streets. The mob scattered as the fire department arrived on the scene and put out the blaze. All that remained of the three sisters were two of their masks. The person who set them ablaze was never found.
A small group of people showed up at their funeral, close friends and family members. Their producer was also there, and so was the one who caused their deaths, and the one who set them ablaze in the streets. Naomi was ‘weeping’ at each of their funerals and spoke at each one. She was ‘devastated’ that they were gone. Now as the rain fell silently on their graves, she stood over them and uttered these words "I hope you three rot in hell.”
