Shinjuku Station On A Busy Day
When I sit down to write, my brain tends to go a million different directions all at once. Multiple trains of thought vying for attention all at once. So A big part of my creative process is muting those other thoughts with something like music to help me keep on the task at hand. Once that has been accomplished I say a quick prayer of inspiration and set to work. I rarely plan out every little detail, more so get a general idea of what comes next. Think of it like this. I come up with fenceposts, those being big plot points, and let the barbed wire just figure itself out as I write. Half of the time I sit down and write a bunch of pages without even realizing how much Ive written. When I come to a fencepost I sit down and figure out what the next one will be. I've also found that keeping a small journal around at all times is very helpful, you never know when inspiration will strike. Lastly, I try to average two pages a day in a book. Most days it's more than two and some it's less or even none. Just let creativity take me where it wants to.
