Ode to Night
The sun seeps down
In your sky like a broken egg, and slides
Down to the Earth
Creating violets, crimsons
And magenta brush strokes
Like a water color painting
You steal shadows from under feet
And skyscrapers
Explaining to everyone
That it is your time
The ebony shadows glide with the wind
Each are a piece of a puzzle
Snapping into place until the only light that is visible
is shining through an empty crescent shape
La Luna sinks from the heavens
And clicks into the the last piece of the puzzle
The man in the moon blows a breath
of stars and planets across your naked sky
They are sewn onto your raven cloth
By the Goddess of dawn
She creates constellations on your skin
Telling myths of the past
The insect orchestra lifts
Their miniscule legs
And play the anthem of twilight.
The stillness of life in your presence
Is like a porcelain doll
Watching but not moving
Your name is Night
You hold all of the world's secrets and mysteries
In the palm of your hand
You watch over everyone while they are sleeping and keep them safe
You leave when they wake
And can look out
For themselvesĀ
