Stereotypical Rise. Nothing New. What Was Expected?
Pitter Patter Slow Plot,
Thick Thoughts,
Too Deep, Tone it Down.
The critics lie not,
my lengthy work spills
complex words and
forces thought from
the firm set believers.
A girl stands
at the beginning,
sitting by the end.
Young woman with fixed beliefs
mirrors the audience.
She is bare faced.
She wears a tee shirt.
Her jeans are standard,
on sale for $20.
20 minutes in she dons
an emerald dress.
Padfolio in hand
she rises up the steps and,
at 17, stands and walks
into the Supreme Court.
Summer intern, exchange of words,
still bare faced, won't budge.
Strong opinions fade into
supple putty shaped
by the faces she passes
on the subway
in trials
in her mirror.
60 minutes in
sits at bench.
Stern and stiff but changed.
