Mankind’s oldest weapon
Considered the king of the battlefield by warriors of all cultures, yet considered a peasant’s weapon by inhabitants of the era of peace. Noblemen spend years of their lives dedicated to the blade yet when faced with an opponent who had only just picked up the weapon, it is they who find their blood spilled. Their noble hearts pierced by their opponent’s spear.
A mere pointed stick fashioned in no less than a minute can be considered the greatest of all weapons wielded by man. In ancient times, mankind has hunted many a beast armed with but a sharpened stick, keeping them at bay with the tip of their spear when facing imposing creatures. Humans have evolved for throwing great distances, and with the aerodynamic shape, the spear has a kill range far larger than most melee weapons, aiding in hunting animals withe fleetest of feet.
It can be considered the progenitor of all weapons. A sword? Take a spear and give it a metal tip for strength, sharpen the edge for cutting, lengthen it for more impact, and shorten the handle for finesse. A bow? A logical step forward for increasing the range and power of a javelin. Polearms, all evolved to specialise in an aspect of a spear. Even the gun can’t help but revert from an exploding stick back to a pointy stick with the creation of the bayonet.
From a farmer to a knight to even legendary heroes such as Cu Chulainn, the spear is the ideal weapon of choice.
