Just a little tidbit of what I’ve been working on (Alternative Title: no, i’m not dead)
I had relatively humble beginnings. Just me and my mother, living in the same shock she was born in. Our home resided amidst a small seaside town. Folks would come from miles around just to get a glimpse of those sandy beaches. I didn’t know what it was, as a boy, what drew people to come so desperately close to the seashore. Just the shore, of course. Nobody dared to venture into the sea. Not after the Perilous Sea truly earned its title. My father was a criminal, but not a good one. He dabbled in all sorts of illegal activity, trying his damndest to make some money, and only ended up becoming more and more indebted to increasingly dangerous characters. But he was charming enough to snag my mother for a few years before she kicked him out. She was looking out for me; she always was. At the time, I was probably not bigger than a pea resting in her womb. I’m sure she would’ve stayed with my dad if it weren’t for me.
My mother had such a wide capacity for love - and when she loved, she was loyal to the bitter end. She would’ve stayed with him on that sinking ship and she would’ve loved him all the way through. But then I showed up and suddenly she had better priorities.
I remember that time as peaceful, though I’m sure plenty of stress went over my head. My mom worked for ridiculously low wages at a flower shop, near the tourist district. I tagged along often, as she couldn’t afford to leave me alone that close to the coast. Some of my earliest memories are of my mother humming a tune, the scent of spring in the air, the sun hanging low in the sky.

I’ve been hauling ass recently, trying to get these next ten chapters written for my book. After spending over half a year pretty barren when it comes to ideas, it is officially summer. And, as everyone knows, summer is the time of endless creativity. No time for writer's block in summer. So anyway, this excerpt is a little piece of a certain someone’s backstory. If you’ve read the ongoing novel so far, you can probably guess who it is. If reading this has piqued your interest, you can find The Illusion Of Control on Wattpad and Prose.
Have a nice day! :D
