Pennies
Pennies, twice dropped,
heads up, in my path.
Fat raindrops falling
as I step into my
favorite shop. A new
book I haven’t read
on the first shelf I see. The
girl at the counter smiles,
the gap in her teeth revealing
soft pink inside. I pay for the
book; she sets my change
on the counter. Pennies, heads
up – what luck.
