Do You Have One?
This is something I found online I thought to be interesting based on what state you live in. I'm still searching for one that list other countries. When I do, I'll post it. But the following phobias are based on the state you live in.
Each will be listed by state, then the fear, then the technical name of the phobia. You will see those states that have the same phobias. For me it isn't the person with the phobia; but to say the entire state? Me thinks I need to find a country that is phobialess.
Phobia is an ancient Greek word meaning morbid fear (yep, it’s OK to feel those tingles down your spine).
Today, phobia is defined as “an exaggerated usually inexplicable and illogical fear of a particular object, class of objects, or situation” (I think Merriam-Webster had a speech-writer conjure that one up). The dictionary fine print also adds “intolerance or aversion for,” which might explain why someone with a phobia often experiences disgust and fear in equal measure.
So, moving right along, this will be simple and easy. Check out the state you are from to see the most commonly realized phobia. But be warned, some of these are really strange (well, to me at least).
